Electric Vehicle Home Charge Scheme Grants Are Changing
There are some big changes taking place from 1st April 2022 in the Office for Zero-Emission Vehicles (OZEV) grant funding scheme for residential properties. Homeowners with off-street parking will no longer be able to apply for the £350 grant to part fund their home EV charger installation.
It’s not all bad news, however, as you will still be able to claim if you rent your property or live in a flat. Plus, the criteria for the Workplace Charging Scheme grants will be extended in April so there are more opportunities for small businesses such as B&Bs and accommodation businesses to take advantage of the OZEV grant.
Here are some frequently asked questions surrounding the new grant funding eligibility criteria.
When will the change take place?
The changes will come into effect on 1st April and so if you’re a homeowner, you have until 31st March to get your EV charging point installed under the current funding arrangements. Contact us to book in your installation date and request a quote.
How is the EV charging grant changing from April 2022?
OZEV Home Charge Scheme
From April 2022, the EVHS will no longer be open to homeowners (including people with mortgages) who live in single-unit properties such as bungalows and detached, semi-detached or terraced housing.
Installations in single-unit properties need to be completed by 31 March 2022 and a claim submitted to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) by 30 April 2022.
The scheme will remain open to:
- Homeowners who live in flats
- People in rental accommodation (flats and single-use properties)
Workplace Charging Scheme
Grant funding is available to workplaces, B&Bs, small accommodation businesses, SMEs, charities and owners of commercially let premises. This initiative will mean that the owner of a holiday cottage can claim up to £350 off the cost of a charging socket for example – an excellent benefit for guests staying at their property.
In most cases you can apply for funding for up to 40 charging points and this increases to 100 for owners of commercially let properties.
How do I make a claim for a grant?
Installation of your EV charging station needs to be undertaken by an authorised installer such as Diamond Services (part of the Diamond Controls group). Once we’ve agreed your chosen charger and eligibility criteria, we will request some basic information and put together the claim on your behalf. Read more about our charging points and process on the EV Charging Stations page.
